Vertical Axis Wind Turbine Blade Lift

posted Thursday, 9 March 2006
Every once in awhile something comes along that shatters what you thought you understood about something. That happened to me when I was researching airfoils and lift in preparation of my building a vertical axis wind turbine. Apparently lift is not as thoroughly understood as I previously thought. Check out this web entry explaining lift in an airfoil, and this entry by the same author. You may find these an interesting read. How do you think these ideas might be applied to the design of a vertical axis wind turbine ( VAWT )?

Interested in small scale unobtrusive VAWT applications for use in urban residential areas.

Interesting, it reminds me of the article about bumpy whale fins that generate turbulence: http://www.gizmag.com/bumpy-whale-fins-set-to-spark-a- revolution-in-aerodynamics/9020/
